July 4th weekend – 2010 (free downloads)

2 Jul

free mixes for download at the bottom of the post.

Here’s the line up for the weekend:

  1. -Highh Lounge (Hotel Erwin, Venice Beach) – Saturday July 3rd, 2010 – 3pm-7pm
  2. -JAMN 94.5 – Boston, MA – Time: TBA

View at Erwin

I’ve mentioned it plenty of times… High Lounge on the rooftop of Hotel Erwin in Venice Beach, CA. I get to play an eclectic blend of music.  Everything from Hiphop, R&B, Old School, Soul, Rock, Classic Rock, Dance, Electro, Reggae, Salsa, Samba, Bossa Nova, Jazz, and even a sprinkle of Radio/Top 40.  I’ll be there Saturdays, sometime between 3pm and 11pm.  This weekend, I’ll be there from 3-7pm.  Again, at the bottom of the post there’s some mixes you can download.  It was recorded live from here a few weeks ago.

Also later this weekend, tune into JAM’N 94.5.  Soon as I have an exact time, I’ll let you all know.  Shout out once again to the homie Pup Dawg for putting me on.

and now… the reason you clicked on this to begin with… Free Music.  It was recorded live from Hotel Erwin on the 19th.  One of the days where we couldn’t use the monitor, so this is all “in the headphones” mixing.  I broke it down by the hour, so if you load it into your iTunes or iPod, and set your gaps to 0, it should play seamless.  Had to throw in a bunch of random drops, cause I can’t give you 4 hours of music and not tell you who put it together.  Enough reading for you?  Fine… go ahead and download here:

Friday – 5/14/10 (DJ SHAKEE @ High Lounge)

13 May

I’ve been workin with The Scratch Academy LA/Rehab Projects for the last few months.  High Lounge is our new spot for the summer.  It’s on the roof of Hotel Erwin in Venice.  We’ll have someone there Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.  I got to open this up for all of us last Saturday, and I get the honor of being the first one to come back and rock it again. Its an amazing view of LA!!  Venice beach behind the DJ, and  on a clear day, you can see all the way into downtown. Come hang out with me!!  I promise you some good music, a variety of music, your favorite tracks, some classics, some new stuff, some stuff you haven’t heard in a while, some stuff you’ve never heard at all, some stuff you can sing along to, pretty much music across the whole board.  Hope to see you there!!!

my 2010 Birthday tour!!!

9 Mar

My original plan for my birthday was to do nothing, but then a lot of things came up, and I ended up with several events planned.  I got a little too busy to post up on the blog, but last Friday, I had two events.  I competed in the semi finals of this KIIS FM DJ contest.  which I will get into another time.  Then right after that, we all walked upstairs from Level3 to The Highlands, and I did a set with the Usual Suspects.  Saturday, I had a BBQ at the fam’s house.  Pictures up soon.

OK… here’s whats comin up!!!!  This Friday, I’ll be rockin with the homie Hey Mesa at his party SugarFoot at The Verdugo Bar.  Flyer up soon.  And on Saturday, its the return of The Bridge.  Brought to you by DJ Hapa and Mr. Choc.  We’ll be celebrating my birthday, along with Mr. Choc and DJ Dynamix.  DJ Babu will be in the mix.  Hope to see you there!!!

Bad Knews birthday recap.

22 Sep

Ok.. not a full recap for now.  But in case you couldn’t make it to Kevin’s birthday party.  I recorded the whole night.  Please ignore my excessive, and mediocre cuts and doubles.  No one was there yet, and it relieves stress.  The cool thing is, that its a LIVITUP reunion for me and the guys.  We don’t all DJ together that often…. let alone 3 of us in one spot.  So up first is me… then DJ Rewind.. then Hey Mesa, then I went back on for a few minutes at the end.  Then Bad Knews himself grabs the mic in a drunken state.  (OK.. they were headphones… you old school DJs know whatsup with that).

A lot of people who said they were coming didn’t show, but it worked out cause the place was pretty packed anyway.  More people woulda just been too much.  It was good to see people that I haven’t seen in a long time.  I’ll see if I can get pictures from Kevin… In the meantime.. here’s the links to download the music.  One link is just me… the other one is the whole night.  The second one is probably the better choice, cause you get mine and the other guys too.

Footnotes (The Sugarfoot Sets)

13 Jul

Last Friday I DJed at Sugarfoot @ The Verdugo Bar.  The resident DJ happens to be none other than Hey Mesa.  One half of the Cocaine Kids, and Original member of Livitup Productions.  If you know me, then you should know Livitup is my original DJ crew.  If you couldn’t make it out last Friday, You can download these mixes.  Just like I did with the re-MOVE mix, its not live from the event, but its live from home.  Scratch Lives keeps a good history if what you played, so I took that list and recorded these, as close to how I did it that night, as possible.  In part 2 I threw in an extra song.  If you were there, see if you can pick it out.  Anyways.. download and have fun.

Come out this Friday!!!!  I might play something like this….

re-MOVE … DJ SHAKEE

17 Jun

A few weeks back my good friend  DJ EvilLincoln asked me to come out to his weekly Tuesday night and do a set.  They do MOVE, every Tuesday night at Holly’s.  The idea behind it is.. “good music”  or “non typical music”.  Its no hassle, no dress code, no cover.  Its Hollywood without the bullshit.  I definitely recommend stopping in to check out the spot.

Of course, I always invite people out, but some people couldn’t make it.  Maybe 2 people asked “what did you play?”  I kinda made it up along the way, so I couldn’t remember everything…. but… Taking advantage of the updated history feature on  Scratch Live’s newest version, I had exactly what I played that night in order.  So I decided to just record it, exactly as it is.  Live, one take, as close to that night as I can remember.  (Slight cheat… the last 2 songs, I switched the order.  Other than that, its exactly as it was on my play history)

So here’s a free mix… and again… be sure to check out MOVE @ Holly’s (in Hollywood) every Tuesday night!!
